American Manchester Terrier Club Rescue

Supporting The Education and Welfare of Manchester Terriers

Welcome to the National Manchester Terrier Rescue (Standard / Toy Manchester Terrier)

American Manchester Terrier Rescue is a dedicated effort to find and re-home Manchester Terriers that, through no fault of their own, are in need of new homes. Some of these dogs are recovered from shelters and pounds, others come from private families. As a national rescue group we need many more foster homes and people to help transport than we currently have in order to continue helping our breed. Attention: AMTC Rescue is in need of foster homes and Transportation Services. Applying to foster or help with transport is a wonderful way of getting to know the manchester terrier and support the breed!

The dogs we take into rescue are re-homed in what we call 'forever homes' but first any Manchester taken into AMTC Rescue is placed in a 'foster home' - and while in the foster home, the dog is vet checked for heartworms, parasites, and other possible medical conditions, spayed/neutered and given lots of love and attention until a forever home is found.

We currently have many Manchester Terriers in need of foster care and AMTC Rescue is doing everything to help find these dogs a forever home, however, it highlights a problem that needs to be addressed. Would you like to help Manchester Terriers? Sign up to foster or help with transportation.  What better way to learn more about the breed and how fun the manchester terrier can be!  NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Volunteers do NOT need to have experience fostering and if you are interested in adopting a Manchester or getting one from a breeder, but are not sure if this is the breed for you, helping AMTC Rescue is a good way to explore this option. If this sounds like something for you, contact your nearest rescue coordinator who will help you.

Also, please keep in mind that volunteering to foster does not mean that you will always have a foster in your home or that you will be inundated with requests to foster. If you absolutely cannot foster a dog for rescue, please consider volunteering to transport. This would help us get dogs from areas where there are no foster homes to an area where someone is willing to foster the dog.

How To Identify a Manchester Terrier in a Shelter, etc.
A good place to go when trying to identify whether or not a dog you may see in a shelter or in another rescue organization is a Manchester Terrier is to review the written breed standard on the AKC website. You will find a description of the breed along with a more information about the breed on the LEFT menu. We can also be of assistance if you email us with a front and side photo(s) or you can use our photo ID upload process.

Thank you,
